Why Give

A message on why you should give to the Legends Fund from Lee Roy Smith, Executive Director of National Wrestling Hall of Fame & Museum, and Rich Bender, Executive Director of USA Wrestling

Help us Grow the Sport of wrestling and Honor its Legends with a gift to the Legends Fund, a new annual giving program of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame & Museum and USA Wrestling . Our two organizations share an important mission – to promote and enhance the sport of amateur wrestling and recognize its legends. By joining the Legends Fund today you can help our organizations advance the future of our sport.

A critical keystone to the success of our organizations has been the tradition of support from our alumni, volunteers, fans, and friends of wrestling. You, too, can play an important role in our future by becoming part of this tradition. Consider the impact your tax-deductible gift will have in transforming the core programs and services at the National Wrestling Hall of Fame & Museum and USA Wrestling:

National Wrestling Hall of Fame & Museum

•  The John T. Vaughan Hall of Honors: Honors the most outstanding and courageous Americans who have wrestled, coached, officiated, and contributed to the legacy of the sport. These individuals are the very best the sport has to offer and deserve to be showcased in such a way that their stories inspire future generations. We must continue to celebrate these accomplished individuals with the highest quality awards, displays, and exhibits worthy of their contributions .

The Paul Scott Museum : Preserves and tells the history of mankind's oldest sport from its ancient past to modern times. Each year, we seek to collect and preserve new and old memorabilia, artifacts, books, periodicals, reference materials, and videos reminiscent of the sport's past and present. The Museum's Wall of Champions lists the names of every national champion, male and female in folkstyle, freestyle and Greco-Roman . Maintaining and updating both old and new exhibits is essential for educating and inspiring visitor experiences .

•  Honors Weekend: The Hall of Fame's annual nomination and selection of inductees who are worthy of the highest honors in the sport of wrestling culminates in two days of festivities called Honors Weekend. We strive to provide a memorable experience during the enshrinement equal to the honor of these heroes of our sport.

State Chapters: Extend the mission of the NWHOF&M by recognizing grass root individuals on a state-by-state level with a lifetime service award . Considerable administrative time at the national level ensures we recognize the individuals in each state who so richly deserve our appreciation.

USA Wrestling

Training our U.S. World and Olympic Teams: The success of American wrestlers in World and Olympic Competition is phenomenal. In fact, the last study to document the success of the various sports represented at the Olympic Games show that wrestling had earned the most Olympic medals of all long term Olympic sports . Without support from the government like most of our competition at World or Olympic Games, we depend on support from our community to continue this success.

•  USA Wrestling's Grass Roots Programs: As the National Governing Body for the sport of wrestling in the USA, we are committed to provide not only opportunities for amateur wrestlers to reach their full human and athletic potential, but also to advocate, promote and coordinate on behalf of our great sport. With nearly 3,200 clubs and 160,000 members nationwide, our responsibilities, programs and services must remain competitive and viable in our marketplace.

•  Communications: USA Wrestling is dedicated to making sure that what happens in the sport is shared with the media and the entire wrestling community. The feats of wrestlers and of the sport are spectacular and USA Wrestling has ushered these stories into virtually every national media and through all means of communication outlets. This effort requires significant resources.
